    WHAT IS SALTED LIGHTLY?

Salted Lightly is a food truck commissary located in Lancaster, California, and we serve all of the Antelope Valley and Los Angeles County cities, including Palmdale, Rosamond, Mojave, Santa Clarita, Valencia, Sylmar, Hollywood, Van Nuys, and beyond!

Our mission is to support your food truck business by giving you all the amenities necessary: a clean, secure, monitored space (which includes water, power, and waste disposal) for your business to grow and flourish, surrounded by other like-minded individuals and companies. We’re thankful for the community that we’re a part of, and our aim is to help build it back up by supporting you in serving others with your delicious food and desserts.

WHAT KIND OF PRICING SHOULD YOU EXPECT AT OUR FOOD TRUCK COMMISSARY?

We have competitive pricing, and we’ll beat any competitors in our area (Antelope Valley, Los Angeles County, and the surrounding areas). Los Angeles charges around $1,200 per month. We don’t. The other food truck commissaries in the Palmdale, Rosamond, and Mojave areas are small and don’t provide the amenities our larger facility can offer (for example, we provide over $400 worth of free ice per month). Our priority is to keep prices reasonable in order to help you grow your food truck business so that you can provide for your family, which in turn will help build up the rest of the community.

WHAT IS A FOOD TRUCK COMMISSARY?

Think of a food truck commissary as your food truck’s home base. When your food truck isn’t out serving the public, it’s stationed at our food truck commissary facility.

Salted Lightly Commissary offers secure designated truck and trailer parking spots, electricity hook ups to charge your food truck or trailer, water hook ups, grey water disposal, trash receptacles, and used cooking oil removal. We also have a wash and prep room on site.

    WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

We are located in Lancaster, California, off of Sierra Highway. We are 5 minutes from the 14 freeway, and there is a Costco and gas stations nearby. Palmdale, Quartz Hill, Littlerock are all a few minutes away.

Our address is: 43061 Sierra Hwy, Lancaster, CA 93534

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR WHEN INSPECTING A FOOD TRUCK COMMISSARY?
    • Ample parking space: find a commissary where you can park your food truck or trailer when it is not in operation, where it will still be easily accessible. You want plenty of space to ensure that you (and those around you) can get in and out whenever necessary.
    • Storage: a good commissary will provide some sort of storage to allow you to keep dry, refrigerated, and frozen items in a clean and secure facility when not in your truck.
    • Prep equipment: many food truck menus have items that need to be prepared outside of the truck. Make sure your food truck commissary has this equipment on-site.
    • Cleanliness: your food truck is tied directly to your commissary, and if the commissary gets shut down due to health code violations, you risk having your food truck business closed as well until those violations are corrected.
    • Waste disposal processes: food trucks and trailers build up a lot of trash and recyclables, so we highly recommend finding a food truck commissary where the trash can be safely disposed of and where you can recycle as many materials as possible in order to limit your impact on the environment.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF YOUR FOOD TRUCK COMMISSARY?

There are a lot of advantages to food truck commissaries. Here are a few of our perks:

    • Meeting LA County health code requirements: all food trucks and trailers need to be in compliance with health codes and laws in Los Angeles County, and one of those requirements is that they must be parked at a food truck commissary, because parking is such a problem. Commissaries keep food trucks and trailers off the roads and in a safe spot, and Salted Lightly Commissary helps you to meet this requirement, with the best amenities for the most competitive prices!
    • Ample, secure parking: ensuring that your vehicles and equipment are safe is of utmost importance, as is the ability move your food truck whenever you need to. Salted Lightly Commissary is a large facility surrounded by a wrought iron fence and automatic gates with keypad access, so food truck owners can use their personal code to access their food trucks 24/7 and come and go as they please. The lot is also camera monitored.
    • Convenient and clean storage: buying and storing all of the ingredients to make your signature food is costly and takes up space, so storage space is one of the greatest benefits at Salted Lightly Commissary. Our commissary allows you to buy ingredients and supplies in bulk that you would otherwise not be able to fit on your truck. It’s incredibly important to have a licensed, food-safe facility to make sure you’re meeting all health code requirements, and that’s one thing we do well.
    • A place to recharge: your food truck needs electricity to make it through those long days driving through Southern California, and most food truck owners will be relying on their existing power and generators the majority of the time. Charging your food truck regularly overnight at Salted Lightly Commissary ensures that you retain enough power to keep trucking all day long and to make sure that any refrigerated areas you have onboard stay cooled to food-safe temperatures.
    • Waste disposal areas for your food truck or trailer: in many places, food truck commissaries are a requirement because they provide facilities in which you can safely dispose of grease, trash, gray water, solid waste, and used cooking oil. Salted Lightly Commissary has wash bay facilities where you can dispose of wastewater and grease, as well as dumpsters for trash, and we provide a complimentary used cooking oil collection service, in which the oil is recycled into renewable energy.
    • One-stop maintenance and service for your food truck or trailer: when the kitchen’s going and there are hungry people lined up outside the window, your food truck is a restaurant that just happens to be located on wheels. But at the end of the day, it’s a vehicle, first and foremost – and that means you’re going to need a mechanic. Now, you can definitely find a qualified mechanic at a local auto shop who can help you out with engine problems and oil changes, but they might not be equipped to handle issues with your kitchen equipment, refrigeration system, or plumbing. Salted Lightly Commissary offers on-site mechanics who can inspect and repair your truck right there, so that you never have to miss valuable time on the road.
    • Access to food prep area: it might be easier to make and prepare your food in an assembly-line fashion rather than in the confines of your truck. Salted Lightly Commissary provides that extra elbow room to make sure your food looks as good as it tastes.
    • Networking opportunities: whether you cook alongside fellow food truckers or just park next to them, you’ll be part of a unique community. Salted Lightly Commissary is a great networking space, and gives you access to experienced food truckers that can answer questions and provide guidance.

THE BENEFITS OF OUR FOOD TRUCK COMMISSARY

    1. Convenient Storage.
Clearly, storage space is one of the greatest benefits of renting space at our food truck commissary. Whether you’re just storing your food trailer or truck or using the food commissary to house all of your ingredients and supplies, it’s incredibly important to have a licensed, food-safe facility in order to make sure you’re meeting all health code requirements in Los Angeles. Having more available storage space also allows you to buy some ingredients and supplies in bulk that you would otherwise not be able to fit on your truck.

    2. Available Supplies at our food truck commissary.
Many commissaries also offer a range of commonly used supplies and ingredients. You can find goods such as water, ice, canned and bottled beverages, staples like bread and rice, produce, meat, dairy, snack foods, desserts, utensils, plates, napkins, gloves, kitchen supplies, cleaning products, and propane. Generally, commissaries don’t require you to purchase supplies from them, though you should read your contract carefully to be sure that renting space doesn’t stipulate any further purchases.

    3. A Place to Park and Recharge your Food Truck or Food Trailer.
As we mentioned before, many cities require food trucks, mobile food trucks, or food trailers to be parked at commissaries overnight. Your food truck, mobile food truck, or food trailer needs electricity to make it through those long days driving through Lancaster, Palmdale, Mojave, Rosamond, Los Angeles, and a food truck commissary is a great place to recharge your food truck, mobile food truck, and food trailer. Though you might be able to find electrical outlets at large festivals or food truck parks, most food truck, mobile food trucks, food trailer owners will be relying on their existing power and generators the majority of the time. Charging your food truck, mobile food truck, and food trailer regularly overnight at a food truck commissary ensures that you retain enough power to keep trucking all day long and to make sure that any refrigerated areas you have onboard stay cooled to food-safe temperatures.

    4. Cleaning and Disposal Areas for your Food Truck, Mobile Food Truck, and Food Trailer.
In many areas, food truck commissaries are also required because they provide cleaning and sanitation areas and facilities to safely dispose grease, used water, solid waste, and used cooking oil. Food Truck Commissaries typically have wash bay facilities where you can dispose of wastewater and grease to be treated and cleaned. The food truck commissary should also have dumpsters for solid trash, and some commercial kitchens offer recycling facilities. Food Trucks, mobile food trucks, food trailers build up a lot of trash and recyclables in the average week, so we highly recommend finding a food truck commissary where you can recycle as many materials as possible in order to limit your impact on the environment!

    5. One-Stop Maintenance and Service for your Food Truck, Mobile Food Truck, and Food Trailer.
When the kitchen’s going and there are hungry people lined up outside the window, your food truck, mobile food truck, and food trailer is a restaurant that just happens to be located on wheels. But at the end of the day, your food truck, mobile food truck, or food trailer is a vehicle first and foremost—and that means you’re going to need a mechanic. Now, you can definitely find a qualified mechanic at a local auto shop who can help you out with engine problems and oil changes, but he or she might not be equipped to handle issues with your kitchen equipment, refrigeration system, or plumbing.

Fortunately, many food truck commissaries offer on-site mechanics who can inspect and repair your truck right there so that you never have to miss valuable time on the road. Find out whether or not potential food truck commissaries offer truck repair services or on-site inspectors who can make sure your truck stays up to code. We’ll talk more about buying a used food truck, mobile food truck, or food trailer later in this series, but you should also keep in mind that some food truck commissaries even lease and sell used food trucks, mobile food trucks, and food trailers. Your food truck commissary may also offer towing services and have spare trucks available to rent in case you suffer a major breakdown that puts you out of commission for a few days or more.
